Surveys of Student and Employer Expectations were Conducted
The EU4UA project has conducted two surveys that will become an essential source of information on students’ and employers’ knowledge needs regarding issues related to Ukraine’s European and Euro-Atlantic integration.
Representatives from Ukrainian partner universities created questionnaires regarding student expectations and employer needs, which were discussed at consortium board meetings.
The student expectations survey included 516 respondents who were enrolled in bachelor’s and master’s programmes at Ivan Franko National University of Lviv, Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv, Yuriy Fedkovych National University of Chernivtsi, Yaroslav Mudryi National Law University, and Zaporizhzhia National University.
Although all the universities that took part in the survey offer a course on the Fundamentals of European Law, the survey uncovered gaps in students’ understanding of significant issues within the normative sectoral disciplines of national law.
The employer survey involved 102 respondents. It was conducted from December 4 to 30, 2024, among representatives of the following sectors: Judiciary: 29 (28.4%) Prosecutor’s offices: 24 (23.5%) Local authorities: 12 (11.8%) Local self-government bodies: 19 (18.6%) Legislature: 6 (5.9%) Executive authorities (higher-level authorities): 1 (1%) Others: 12 (11.8%).
Given the specifics of their professional activities, stakeholders have identified the most critical knowledge and competencies related to European and Euro-Atlantic integration that graduates of Ukrainian law schools should have in constitutional, administrative, civil, and criminal law.
Therefore, the following steps within the project will address these needs and students’ wishes to improve the content of constitutional, administrative, criminal, and civil law courses.
